Mr. Steelman was born in Los Angeles , California , in December 1947. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy (B.S., 1970). After spending five years as an officer in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Steelman graduated from the University of Baltimore School of Law (J.D., 1977), where he served on the Law Review. After law school Mr. Steelman served as a Law Clerk to Hon. Edward S. Northrop, then Chief Judge, U.S. District Court, District of Maryland, (1977-1978). Mr. Steelman was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1978, U.S. District Court, District of Maryland and U.S. Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit in 1978 and the District of Columbia in1985. Mr. Steelman was admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1987. Mr. Steelman is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, and has served that organization as the Chairman of the MSBA's Section Council on Legal Education and Admission to the Bar. He has been a Board Director of the Baltimore City Bar Foundation, Inc. and on the Board of Governors of the Maryland Trial Lawyer's Association. He has also served on a Congressional Health Care Advisory Committee; MICPEL Faculty on Construction Litigation; University of Baltimore Law School Advisory Council ; and Board of Directors of the Carson Scholars Fund. He is presently a member of the Maryland State and American Bar Associations; Maryland Trial Association and The Association of Trial Lawyers of America. Mr. Steelman is the author of Comment, "Maryland Laws on Child Abuse & Neglect: History, Analysis & Reform," 6 University of Baltimore Law Review 113, 1976. He is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Baltimore , School of Law where he teaches Medical Litigation. Mr. Steelman has been listed for a number of years in the Martindale-Hubbel Bar Registry of Preeminent Lawyers. Mr. Steelman has over twenty-five years of general civil trial practice in all levels of the Federal and State Court systems. Mr. Steelman is also a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum. His practice has provided him experience handling cases in the areas of Construction Litigation, Professional Liability cases, including Medical Malpractice, OTC Pharmaceutical Products Litigation, Personal Injury, Wrongful Death, Products Liability, and Insurance coverage disputes, Real Estate and Developer Disputes and Appellate Practice.
