Howard L. Alderman, Jr. began practicing with the Firm in 1986 after leaving the State of Maryland Office of Environmental Programs [now the Maryland Department of the Environment] where, among other duties, he sat as an appellate hearing examiner on regulatory actions taken by that agency or local environmental offices. He received a B.S. degree in Geography and Environmental Planning from Towson State University (cum laude), his M.S. degree from Johns Hopkins University in Urban Planning and has worked as a planner in several local and metropolitan agencies. Upon being admitted to the Maryland Bar after receiving his Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law, his practice has been in the representation of property owners, builders and developers.
His practice includes real estate leasing and sales, business formation and financing, and various levels of administrative and appellate practice in the areas of planning, zoning, land use and development law, including administrative/quasi-judicial hearings/trials, and appellate representation on land use/zoning and development matters.

Mr. Alderman has combined the lobbying of county, state and municipal elected officials as part of his practice to ensure complete client representation. Mr. Alderman has been admitted to practice before all Maryland state courts, the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, U.S. Court of Federal Claims, the United States Supreme Court and is a member of the Baltimore County and Maryland State Bar Associations. Mr. Alderman served as the Firm’s Managing Principal from 1998 through 2017. After serving on the Board of The Country Club of Maryland, located on Stevenson Lane in Towson, Maryland, for seven years, Mr. Alderman was elected President of the Club, a position he held until 2020. Having been re-elected to Board he now serves as the Club’s Executive Vice-President.
